The Dog’s Breakfast Challenge Was a Huge Success!

The Dog's Breakfast Icecream ChallengeHomestead Ice cream’s Dog’s Breakfast Challenge was a huge success, raising over 332 (revised) dollars for dogs in need! A huge thanks to Homestead Ice cream for hosting the event and supplying the ice cream, all the competitors, and everyone else who came to watch and support.

In the Dog’s Breakfast Challenge, competitors are given a huge dog  bowl of ice cream, containing:

  1. 14 scoops of ice cream
  2. 6 toppings, including cookie crumbs, sprinkles and nuts
  3. whipped cream and a maraschino cherry!

The goal is to eat all the ice cream (and lick out the bowl) in as little time as possible.  Last time, Paul ” Apollo Cream”  Lehmkuhl  set the record with a time of 6 minutes and 10 seconds. This time around, he managed to eat the entire bowl in 4 minutes 44 seconds! Paul also won the “Biggest Mouthful” award (an amazing sight to see! )

Pulling a close second, Jay “Cone Crusher” Fitzsimmons managed an impressive time of just 6 minutes 25 seconds, also winning the best costume award. Both Will “Brownie Bandit” Emery and Adam “Sundae Slayer” Greuel, were just three seconds apart, at 7:42 and 7:45 respectively. Adam also won the “Cleanest Eater” award.

Interestingly (or ironically) enough, all competitors received gift certificates for a free Dog’s Breakfast after the event.

The money raised is going straight to the medical care of  Misha (see right) , who was rescued and put in to foster care this weekend. Although the veterinarians said that she could lose one of her eyes due to injuries, she pulled through well and is expected to recover nicely! Misha’s in foster care right now, so if you want to adopt this sweet little girl be sure to visit her petfinder page.

Thanks to everyone who came out and helped with the event, and congratulations to Paul for a heroic defense of his title!

If you’re in town and looking for ice cream, you should definitely check out homestead on 910 Victoria Avenue.

Pets in the Park a Huge Success!

petsinthepark09010Sunday July 12th brought nothing but sunshine, great volunteers and, of course, lots and lots of dogs to the annual Pets in the Park event.  This is the largest fundraiser of the year for New Hope and we thank everyone who supported and volunteered for this event.  Approximately one half of our annual vet bills for our rescue dogs will be paid by funds raised at this event.

Congratulations to Bob Anderson of Saskatoon as he was the winner of a giant jar of dog biscuits from the New Hope Booth.

Donations to New Hope totalled $324.20. Thank you so much!  Great publicity like this can only help us spread the word and enable us to help more dogs.
