Volunteers fuel our mission! New Hope Dog Rescue is always on the lookout for volunteers who can help us make a difference in the lives of rescue dogs and our community. Listed below are the volunteer opportunities we currently have available.

Graphic Designer (Remote in Canada)

Location: Remote, Canada

Commitment: Minimum 1-year commitment from orientation date


About the Role

New Hope Dog Rescue is looking for a creative and reliable Volunteer Graphic Designer to help bring our dogs' stories to life through eye-catching design across social media, swag, and print materials. This role plays a huge part in helping our dogs get seen, shared, and adopted — because great design and storytelling save lives.

If you love dogs, have an eye for design, enjoy creating visual content, and want your skills to directly support animal welfare, this role might be a perfect fit.


What You’ll Do

  • Design eye-catching graphics for social media posts, swag, fundraising campaigns, and event announcements

  • Develop promotional materials including flyers, posters, banners

  • Design print materials such as brochures, pamphlets, donor packages, adoption kits, and event signage

  • Use Canva (and other design tools, if applicable) to create content aligned with New Hope Dog Rescue's branding, including consistent use of fonts, colours, and visual style

  • Collaborate with and report to the Marketing & Communications Lead to develop designs that highlight dogs' personalities, journeys, and success stories

  • Maintain visual consistency across all materials to strengthen New Hope Dog Rescue's brand identity

  • Meet agreed-upon deadlines and design needs


Requirements

  • Speak, read, and write fluently in English

  • Experience creating graphics for social media, print, and/or merchandise

  • Strong working knowledge of Canva; experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is an asset

  • A strong eye for composition, layout, typography, colour, and visual storytelling

  • Comfort working with photos — selecting strong images, basic editing, and understanding what makes a photo engaging

  • Access to a private computer and an advanced smartphone

  • Willing to volunteer at least once a week for a minimum of one year from the orientation date

  • Reliable, organized, and able to work independently

  • Passion for animal welfare

Member-at-large (Remote in Canada)

New Hope Dog Rescue is currently seeking individuals interested in filling the roles of President, Vice President, Secretary, and Member-at-Large.


The Board of Directors' focus is on visioning the strategic direction, executive oversight, and financial stewardship of New Hope Dog Rescue. Day-to-day operations are entrusted to the staff and volunteers led by the Executive Director.


Additional opportunities for Board members to contribute include participating in planning sub-committees, co-hosting events, supporting resource development initiatives, and helping to shape future program planning.


What You’ll Do

  • Serve as a general representative for the organization, providing oversight, and voting on critical decisions.

  • Understand and promote the mission of New Hope Dog Rescue

  • Keep up to date with issues and trends that may affect the organization

  • Understand and monitor the organization’s financial affairs and service results

  • Avoid any potential conflicts of interest

  • Understand and maintain New Hope Dog Rescue's Code of Conduct & Confidentiality

  • Ensure the organization is complying with all legal and regulatory requirements

  • Attend and actively participate in board meetings & the AGM

  • Act as an ambassador for New Hope Dog Rescue

  • On-call to answer emergency calls to the Executive Director’s phone one weekend every 8 weeks, approximately

  • Play an active role in fundraising as well as volunteer and foster home engagement

  • Abide by, review, and update by-laws as necessary


Qualifications

Purses for Paws Logistics Committee

By signing up to assist with the Purses for Paws committee, you are agreeing to fulfill the duties below for whichever committee you work on, in addition to the following responsibilities:

  • All committee members will be responsible for attending committee meetings (approximately 1 per month - may increase in frequency leading up to the event)

  • All committee members will be in attendance at Purses for Paws

  • All committee members will be responsible for helping to sort donated purses prior to the event

  • All committee members will be responsible for assisting with the setup and take-down of the event

This committee will be responsible for:

  • Determining the program for the event in conjunction with NHDR’s Event Coordinator

  • Determining the number of volunteers needed at the event and acting as the point of contact for them at the event

  • Planning and overseeing the activities happening at the event (not related to the silent auction and raffle) (ex. Wine table, puppy play area)

Purses for Paws Silect Auction & Raffle Committee

By signing up to assist with the Purses for Paws committee, you are agreeing to fulfill the duties below for whichever committee you work on, in addition to the following responsibilities:

  • All committee members will be responsible for attending committee meetings (approximately 1 per month - may increase in frequency leading up to the event)

  • All committee members will be in attendance at Purses for Paws

  • All committee members will be responsible for helping to sort donated purses prior to the event

  • All committee members will be responsible for assisting with the setup and take-down of the event

This committee will be responsible for:

  • Soliciting for silent auction items

  • Soliciting for raffle prizes

  • Overseeing the silent auction and raffle at the event with assistance from NHDR’s Event Coordinator

Purses for Paws Sponsorship Committee

By signing up to assist with the Purses for Paws committee, you are agreeing to fulfill the duties below for whichever committee you work on, in addition to the following responsibilities:

  • All committee members will be responsible for attending committee meetings (approximately 1 per month - may increase in frequency leading up to the event)

  • All committee members will be in attendance at Purses for Paws

  • All committee members will be responsible for helping to sort donated purses prior to the event

  • All committee members will be responsible for assisting with the setup and take-down of the event

This committee will be responsible for:

  • Working with NHDR’s Event Coordinator to identify and approach potential event sponsors

  • Act as a NHDR ambassador at the event, ensuring that NHDR’s Executive Director is introduced to event sponsors and thank them for their support

  • Working with NHDR’s Event Coordinator to ensure all sponsors receive handwritten thank you cards once the event has concluded

Purses for Paws Ticket Sales & Registration Committe

By signing up to assist with the Purses for Paws committee, you are agreeing to fulfill the duties below for whichever committee you work on, in addition to the following responsibilities:

  • All committee members will be responsible for attending committee meetings (approximately 1 per month - may increase in frequency leading up to the event)

  • All committee members will be in attendance at Purses for Paws

  • All committee members will be responsible for helping to sort donated purses prior to the event

  • All committee members will be responsible for assisting with the setup and take-down of the event

This committee will be responsible for:

  • Event promotion that encourages ticket sales (ex. Approaching businesses and individuals to invite them to participate)

  • Guest registration at the event

  • Assisting with the seating plan

Secretary (Remote in Canada)

Volunteer Community Visit Team Member (Saskatoon, SK)

In this role, you would be a part of a team that:

  • Accompany foster dogs/puppies to various senior homes and assisted living facilities around the city

  • Help foster dogs/puppies interact with community members while at the visit

  • Take care of the dogs/puppies during the visit, including clean up if they go potty

  • Interact with the residents and staff of the places we visit

Volunteer Foster Home Approval Team Member (Saskatoon, SK)

In this role, you would be a part of a team that:

  • Acts as the point of contact for potential new fosters

  • Conducts initial screening interview with potential fosters

  • Completes home visits with potential fosters

  • Be a resource to answer questions from potential fosters

  • Provides information about fostering, New Hope Dog Rescue, and our policies/procedures

Volunteer Social Media Content Specialist

Location: Remote, Canada (preference given to Saskatoon candidates)

Commitment: Minimum 1-year commitment from orientation date

  • Craft engaging captions, headlines, and on-image text, acting as a storyteller who brings each dog's personality and journey to life

  • Write platform-appropriate copy tailored to Instagram and Facebook from heartwarming adoption stories to urgent calls to action

  • Collaborate with and report to the Marketing & Communications Lead to develop content that highlights dogs' personalities, journeys, and success stories

  • Maintain visual consistency across all content to strengthen New Hope Dog Rescue's brand identity

Requirements

  • Speak, read, and write fluently in English, with strong writing skills and attention to grammar and tone

  • Experience creating content for social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook)

Volunteer Video Content Specialist

Location: Saskatoon (in-person filming required)

Filming Schedule: Flexible weekday evenings & weekends, dependent on events
