Here at New Hope Dog Rescue (NHDR), we believe in total transparency. It’s easy to think of an adoption fee like a retail price tag, but in the animal rescue world, it works very differently! Every dollar from an adoption fee goes directly back into providing medical care, daily essentials, and life-saving rescue operations for every dog that enters our foster care network.

1. Comprehensive Veterinary & Medical Care

Before any dog in our care moves into a forever home they receive thorough veterinary care. If you were to cover these veterinary services out of pocket at a private clinic, the cost would far exceed our standard adoption fee.


When you adopt through NHDR, your fee covers vital medical treatments, including:

  • Spay or Neuter Surgery: Every dog that is old enough is spayed or neutered prior to adoption, preventing unwanted litters and supporting long-term health.

  • Core Vaccinations & Deworming: Up-to-date core vaccines protect your pet against preventable diseases like parvovirus, distemper, and rabies.

  • Microchip Identification: A permanent microchip is implanted and registered, ensuring your dog can be safely returned to you if they ever wander off.


Routine preventative care creates a healthy foundation for every animal. According to the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, early preventive medicine and routine health checks dramatically improve a pet’s quality of life and long-term wellbeing.

2. Foster Supplies & Daily Care Essentials

Because NHDR is a foster-based rescue, we don’t operate a central shelter facility. Instead, our amazing foster families open up their hearts and homes to give rescue dogs a safe, loving environment while they await adoption.


To ensure our fosters are fully set up for success, we provide all the food, supplies, and medical support required for each dog. A portion of every adoption fee helps restock these essential care items:

  • High-quality, nutritional dog food tailored to life stage and dietary needs

  • Crates, kennels, and cozy dog beds

  • Leashes, collars, ID tags, and walking harnesses

  • Bowls, grooming supplies, waste bags, and training pads

  • Squeaky toys, chew items, and puzzle games for mental enrichment

Some dogs come to us requiring basic wellness care and brief foster stays. Rather than charging an astronomical fee for a dog that needed major surgery, we keep our adoption fees fair and standardized.
