The Best Dog-Friendly Parks and Trails in Saskatchewan

Summer or winter, rain or shine, our dogs always need their regular dose of fresh air and exercise! To make things easy, New Hope Dog Rescue has compiled a list of some of the best dog-friendly parks and trails, right here in Saskatchewan. Some of these are more urban with on-leash requirements, and some allow your pooch to roam free off-leash.
Saskatoon and Surrounding Area
While Saskatoon is full of beautiful parks and trails, Meewasin Valley might be the most prominent. It is the perfect way to view both the city’s urban bustle and beautiful natural landscape. Bring your leash with you, walk along the river, and enjoy!
For off-leash playtime, consider renting a private off-leash space like Sirius Unleashed in Dalmeny for your dogs to get their run on.
Regina and Surrounding Area
Wascana Centre has you covered for beautiful parks, natural areas and vibrant landscaping - right in the city. The area includes trails that can be used for leashed walks.
Or, journey to the Northwest of Regina to Wascana Valley Natural Area Recreation Site for even more trails and leashed walking. White Butte, also outside Regina, also offers a 5-kilometer trail, open all year long, for your leashed dog to enjoy.
Glamping
If you and your dog want to get out of the city, but still enjoy the comforts of modern living, glamping could be the solution for you. Saskatchewan has quite a few glamping spots, including at Buffalo Pound Lake, Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park, and, south of Saskatoon, at Camp Wolf Willow.
Your dog will love the birds chirping and the bees buzzing, as many of these locations offer beautiful outdoor areas such as trails, beaches, and firepits. Just remember to bring your leash, as pets should be leashed and supervised at all times at these locations!
Greater Saskatchewan Area

Wherever you end up embracing the great outdoors with your best buddy, it’s always important to keep health and safety in mind. Here are some tips for keeping everyone safe while enjoying dog-friendly spaces:
Your dog should be well-behaved around both people and other dogs.
Consider visiting outside of peak times to get your dog used to a new area.
Follow the park rules - usually these include policies like pick up after your dogs, don’t bring a sick dog, and leave children at home.
You should use the appropriate park for your dog’s size, and keep in mind that many parks don’t allow young puppies.
Your dog should be up to date on their vaccinations.
Your dog should know the basic commands, like sit, stay, and come.
Always supervise your dog as they enjoy off-leash areas.
